Customer care in 2020

In my search for a challenge to the MDAS viral video I found this. The video is kind of slow, and the idea about making it in Second Life is fun, but gets pretty annoying after a while. Who want to watch bad graphics for more than 30 Sec? Seeing som of the Machinima made in WOW second life can’t follow that lead.

Anyway. About customer care: This is a fine act of balance though. To care about the consumers, but not to be obsessed with them. That can be scary too. With all the new technology possibilities we have to choose how to activate our knowledge. Google has been on the public agenda for a while concerning issues on collecting data. Joost is heading for the same trouble.

But as I’m concerned it depends on how you chose to use the data. If Google can use my info to customize the ads on my GMail, so I wont get diaper-commercials (not planning to get any kids right now) or holiday-offers (when I’m not going on holiday before the end of august) I will embrace data-gathering.

If it means I can get customized, relevant ads and therefore no annoying, disruptive ads with NO relevans at all. If joost can get my data so the value of each commercial will be multiplied I’ll (or hope I will) receive 1 minute of TV-C’s compared to the 7 minutes often aired today. And that minute will be relevant – Please collect my data! But use it well!

Advertising on Joost

Joost soon seems to be ready to leave beta. With all beta testers receiving 999 invites, the friend edition and now announcing advertisers this hyped application must leave the teething troubles behind. But even though every week brings news about networks collaborating, advertisers chipping in and new versions getting released, I still feel Joost lacks content. The networks seem to hold back the most popular and high quality content. Joost is still niche channels without blockbusters to drive real traffic..

But with serious advertisers now going public about collaborating, the networks will probably start to listen and reconsidering what content to chip in. announces the following….

U.S. advertisers on the system include Electronic Arts, Kraft, Lionsgate, Microsoft and Nestlé Purina PetCare. IBM, L’Oréal Paris and Nokia Nseries are among the European brands. The Coca-Cola Company, HP, and Intel are advertising globally on the system.

Ad units include still images, video spots, overlays and widgets, in addition to branded entertainment and channel sponsorships. Joost has also created an ad unit called Ad Bug, consisting of an advertiser’s animated logo in a corner of the screen, similar to station ID components in cable and broadcast TV. Ad bugs will appear at various times during a given show and disappear again after a matter of seconds.

“For this to work the bargain between the user and the advertiser needs to be reinvented,” said Clark. “The basic premise is not that complicated.”   From

Simultanious viewing?

Spending some time exploring all the new emerging technologies challenging the traditional TVviewing and bringing the TV experience online, combining the best of both worlds, I am a bit confused about the lack of keeping the feeling of flow TV. Watching Youtube, dailymotion, currentTV, Jalipo and Joost I miss something. Even though it seems as there are a tendency towards on-demand viewing I see plenty of possibilities of keeping the aspect of flow and live at the same time as the possibilities of control. Especially at Joost where they very nicely have combined chat functions and viewing it doesn’t make sense that there aren’t a flow to gather around with? Have I missed something. It would be obvious to be able to invite somebody to view content simultaniously as re-creating the feeling of shared viewing across space and context. But can’t find out if I’m just a newbie in Joost or if online TV just is killing flow TV.

I have Joost Beta!!!

Nice to see blogs in action. After posting my wish for a joost login I’ve now got it. Already and plenty. So that’s just perfect…

These days I’m really curios about Joost. I think this project has possibilities of growing big anf hopefully helps solve some of the problems connected to TV-ads. I don’t know enough about it yet, but I know what I would like these guys to do with my TV and I have a feeling that it’s the right way their heading.

BUT – my biggest problem right now is that I don’t have an beta account so I can explore and test it… so anybody out there – give me an invitee? please?
